Doula defrauder Kaitlyn Braun will return to court in May for sentencing submissions

Sentencing has been pushed back again for a woman who admitted to deceiving doulas while on house arrest.

Kaitlyn Braun, who previously admitted to faking pregnancies and defrauding doulas, made a brief court appearance Thursday in Hamilton.

Braun has pleaded guilty to four charges related to the solicitation of support for a fake pregnancy.

The incidents, involving two victims, happened in April 2024.

Braun was serving a sentence of house arrest at the time for doing the same thing to other doulas.

Court heard that she would pretend to be pregnant, often saying it was the result of a sexual assault. The doulas said they offered Braun support while she was allegedly going through a stillbirth.

She plead guilty to 21 charges in December 2023 and was sentenced to two years less a day of house arrest. The judge in that case expressed concern about Braun’s likelihood to reoffend, stating that he was unhappy with the sentence and how it was structured, but felt compelled to accept the sentence as it was a joint submission from both the Crown and defense.

Braun is scheduled to return to court for sentencing submissions on May 16.
