Owners change and the relationship between the Arizona Coyotes and the City of Glendale carries on like a soap opera. Meanwhile, team general manager Don Maloney and coach Dave Tippett keep chugging along.
The Phoenix Coyotes will go by a different name next season. Anthony LeBlanc, the club's co-owner, president and CEO, announced Wednesday the franchise will change its name to the Arizona Coyotes next year.
The Coyotes' four-year quest to find an owner ended last month when George Gosbee, Anthony LeBlanc and the IceArizona ownership group completed their purchase of the franchise from the NHL for US$170 million. It was not an easy sell.
With Tuesday night's Glendale City Council meeting, the Coyotes will find out if the city will approve an arena lease agreement with Renaissance Sports & Entertainment, which has an agreement in place to buy the franchise from the NHL.
