If those symptoms haven't cleared up, it could be a simple question of not having taken your medications properly, and a new product called Amiko is hoping to eliminate the mystery.

The gadget is a dispenser that wraps around the original medication packaging and allows users to manage their medication schedule and share their history reports with their doctors for a more accurate indication of how the body is responding to drugs.

It can alert the user and caregivers when it's time to take medication and helps manage the dosage in terms of quantity and administration methods.

Even for those without a smartphone, Amiko has a hub that allows users to stay connected with their circle of caregivers.

The first product to be launched, according to the company, will be an inhaler that not only records dosage history but also provides feedback on how to better execute dosage.

Amiko products for managing pill bottles, insulin pens, injectables and blister packs are in the works.

Pricing information has not yet been revealed, but the inhaler is predicted to cost about $50. Units will be available for sale and distribution in the second quarter of 2015.

Smart pill boxes are not a new idea: Vitality unveiled GlowCaps in 2009 -- a smart pill dispenser that glows if the scheduled dosage has been skipped. Vitality is currently beta-testing GlowPack, which helps patients manage their dosage of other kinds of drugs including blister packs, injectables, drinkables and topical ointments.

The Smartinhaler by Nexus6 received FDA clearance in June for asthma medication tracking.
