Two flavours of Quaker Harvest granola bars have been recalled in Ontario over fears they may be contaminated with Listeria.
Quaker Canada, a unit of PepsiCo Inc, announced late Monday it had begun a voluntary recall of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars over fears that sunflower seeds in the bars may be contaminated with Listeria bacteria.
The recall covers only Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Chocolate Nut Medley and Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Yogurt, Fruit & Nut Medley.
The Chocolate Nut Medley bars have Best Before dates that read 16 OC 16, while the Yogurt, Fruit And Nut bars Best Before dates read 16 OC 12.
The bars were distributed to a number of pharmacies as well as Longo’s stores across Ontario.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said it is conducting an investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

There have been no reported illnesses in either Canada or the U.S, but Quaker said it was issuing the recall "out of an abundance of caution." Nevertheless, the recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms of listeriosis can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
Symptoms usually begin about three days after eating contaminated food but the illness can incubate and take as long as 70 days to cause symptoms.
