A recall that began in December 2011 of over-the-counter cold and allergy medications with product-labelling problems has been expanded again.
Health Canada said Friday that medication manufacturer Vita Health Products Inc. is adding to the list of recalled products sold under the name Personelle due to labelling issues.
"The recalled products pose a risk to health because the labels contain errors such as suggesting packages are child resistant when they are not, or are missing warning statements for consumers with allergies or existing medical conditions," Health Canada said in a statement.
Other problems include important warning information printed on the inside of the box, with no instructions on the outside of the box to read that information.
The products include over-the-counter cold and flu, allergy and sinus, and acetaminophen medications, as well as natural health products.
Health Canada says it has not received any information about concerns about the quality of the medications.
Consumers are being advised to return the products to where they were bought or to call Vita Health at 1-800-665-8820 for instructions.
"Vita Health is reviewing its product labels and putting actions in place to address the labelling issues," Health Canada says.
Vita Health began issuing recalls of medications sold under such brand names as Compliments, Safeway, Pharmasave, Rexall and Biomedic in December, 2011 over labelling problems.
It issued two more recalls in 2012, and another eight recalls so far this year.
