The emergency department at Edmonton's Royal Alexander Hospital is re-opening after hospital officials ruled out Ebola in a patient who had recently travelled in Africa.
The department will re-open Monday at 11 a.m. local time, Alberta Health Services said in a statement.
According to AHS, a patient who came to the emergency department early Monday was assessed by hospital staff and is not considered at risk for the virus.
"The patient assessment has confirmed that the patient is not a considered at risk of Ebola virus nor does this patient present a risk to other patients or staff," the statement said.
"Patients and staff can be assured that they are not at risk for Ebola virus."
Dr. Gerry Predy, Alberta's senior medical officer of health, told reporters that the patient remains in isolation in hospital and will undergo further tests, but is not considered to have anything that is "unusually infectious."
He noted that many of the early symptoms of Ebola can be similar to those of other infectious illnesses.
Predy wouldn't say which specific country the patient had travelled to, but said that officials later learned that the patient had not been to any parts of Africa currently affected by the outbreak.
Hospital officials apologized for any inconvenience the closure caused.
