OTTAWA -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning consumers to avoid certain Compliments brand Super 8 Beef Burgers because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

The CFIA says there have been reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the product and there may be recalls of additional products as a food safety investigation continues.

The burgers were distributed in Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador in Sobeys banner stores.

The burgers, made by Belmont Meats of Toronto, might also be in Foodland, FreshCo and Price Chopper stores.

The eight-ounce burgers are sold frozen in packages of six (with a UPC code of 0 55742 37055 3).

Food contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 may not look or smell spoiled but may cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses.
