EDMONTON - University and college students in Alberta who feel stressed, isolated or overwhelmed will have more mental health professionals and services to help them.

The Alberta government is giving the universities of Alberta, Calgary and Lethbridge $3 million each in grants over three years to expand campus mental health services and develop models of care that can be used on campuses across Alberta.

Health Minister Fred Horne says helping students learn to cope is just as important as helping them learn.

He says if students come forward to seek help, the resources need to be there for them.

The $10.5 million in funding will help expand campus mental health services through additional staff, including psychologists, physiologists, clinical social workers, physicians, psychiatric nurses, counsellors, and mental health practitioners.
