George Clooney is now officially off the market after marrying British-Lebanese lawyer Amal Alamuddin over the weekend. The union has left many wondering who will take Clooney’s place as Hollywood’s most "eligible bachelor," and others wanting to know more about the woman who managed to nab the actor’s heart.

Clooney’s marriage to Alamuddin is a marked departure from his previous relationships with various actresses, models and TV personalities, including Lisa Snowdon, Sarah Larson and Stacy Keibler.

The star was also married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993. After that marriage ended, Clooney famously said he wouldn't marry again.

Thus, it came as a surprise to many when it was confirmed that the 56-year-old actor was engaged last April. It also left Hollywood-watchers scrambling to learn more about his fiancée.

Alamuddin, 36, is a prominent human rights lawyer, who practices at the Doughty Street Chambers firm in London, U.K. Her father is a retired university professor who used to teach at the American University of Beirut, and her mother is the foreign editor of the newspaper al-Hayat.

She was born in Lebanon but her family was forced to leave the country for the U.K. in the 1980s because of the Lebanese Civil War. She grew up in London and studied at the University of Oxford, and later attended New York University.

Throughout her career, Alamuddin has been involved in several high-profile cases including former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and WikiLeaks' Julian Assange.

She has also served on several UN commissions on issues including the Syrian civil war and drone counter-terrorism operations.

In May, Alamuddin was part of a group of women pushing for international action to end sexual violence against children in conflict zones.

Now with Clooney officially hitched, many are wondering who will take his place as the “most eligible bachelor.”
