TORONTO -- A pair of police officer pals, a UFC fighter and a transgender former cadet are among those suiting up for "The Amazing Race Canada."

CTV has announced the first six teams competing on season 3 of the reality competition series, which premieres July 8.

Among the competitors are best friends Dana Hayward and Amanda Johnston from St. John's, N.L, who are police officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

UFC fighter Elias Theodorou and girlfriend Max Altamuro from Toronto are also in the race.

They'll square off against recently engaged former military cadets from Centreville, N.S., Michaelia Drever and Hamilton Elliot. Elliot is a transgender man.

Rounding out the list are Montreal couple Nic La Monaca and Sabrina Mercuri and two teams of brothers: Hamilton's Gino and Jesse Montani, and Brent and Sean Sweeney from Musquodoboit Harbour, N.S.

A total of 12 teams will race to win more than $1 million in prizes.
