Bold colours, lace and sequins are on display on the red carpet as celebrities make their way toward Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre for the 88th Academy Awards.
Some attendees, including Olivia Wilde and Best Actress nominee Saoirse Ronan, chose bold, plunging gowns. Others, like Isla Fisher and Jennifer Jason Leigh, opted for more demure dresses in pastel colours.
Alicia Vikander was among the first award nominees to stroll down the red carpet in a bright yellow Louis Vuitton gown.
Vikander, 27, is nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award for her role in The Danish Girl. She told eTalk’s Ben Mulroney that she was inspired to wear a bold colour on the red carpet.
Best Actress nominee Saoirse Ronan stunned in a sequined emerald green Calvin Klein dress. Ronan, 21, stars in Brooklyn, a coming-of-age movie that is also up for a Best Picture Oscar. She said she likes wearing green to honour her Irish heritage.
Canada’s Rachel McAdams, who is up for a Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Spotlight, also chose an emerald green gown. Instead of a plunging neckline, she and her style team went for a dramatic backless look.
Brie Larson, a favourite to take home the Best Actress Oscar, is radiant in a flowing, dark blue Gucci gown, cinched at the waist with an embellished belt.
Olivia Wilde arrived in a pleated Grecian-inspired plunging white Valentino gown, complemented by a choker necklace and a soft, braided updo.
Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, long-time friends who are both nominated for Oscars this year, posed together on the red carpet.
Jacob Tremblay, the Canadian wunderkind who impressed critics with his role in the Oscar-nominated movie Room, told Ben Mulroney that he’s wearing an Armani suit.
Jacob’s photogenic parents are also getting a lot of attention tonight.
Global interest in Jacob spiked as he and others walked down the red carpet. According to Google Canada, Canadians have been searching for more information about Jacob – and of course, his parents.
