BATAVIA, N.Y. -- An Ontario man has been sentenced to a year in jail for causing catastrophic injuries to a man he punched during a Kid Rock concert in western New York last year.

Local media report that 35-year-old Craig Lawson was sentenced Monday to a year in Genesee County Jail.

Lawson pleaded guilty to assault in June for punching Jason McNeil of Tuscaloosa, Ala., in the face during a concert in July 2013 at Darien Lake Theme Park.

Lawson admitted he punched McNeil after he mistook him for another man who groped his wife after the concert.

McNeil suffered a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for a time. Prosecutors say he requires constant supervision.

Kid Rock donated $5,000 to defray McNeil's medical bills.
