It seemed that everyone this week wanted to know whether Justin Bieber would really be leaving the pop music arena for other ventures. His name tops the Starcount global social media chart for the week of December 16-23.
1. Justin Bieber
The most popular person in the world this week, Justin Bieber was the most liked star on Facebook with nearly 2 million new fans liking his official page after he announced that he would be retiring from music, only to retract the claims days later. The film documentary "Justin Bieber's Believe" on the Canadian singer's rise to fame had its red carpet premiere last week and hits North American cinemas on Christmas Day.
2. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus was the most followed person on Instagram after almost 250,000 followed the ‘Wrecking Ball' singer as she continued to shed her Disney past with another raunchy teaser for her ‘Adore You' video which left little to the imagination.
3. Vin Diesel
Despite only appearing on one network, Facebook, Vin Diesel was the most talked person in the world after 6.2 million people took to Facebook to talk about the "Fast & Furious" franchise as he continued posting touching content about co-star Paul Walker.
With the release of her self-titled, super-secret album, it's no surprise that Beyoncé had such a big week on social media after 2 million people talked about the singer on Facebook, while nearly a quarter of a million fans followed her on Instagram.
5. Paul Walker
Paul Walker's Facebook page was one of the most popular in the world this week. One post, showing heartwarming memorials to Paul, was liked over 1 million times and shared over 50,000 times as his page grew by 900,000 fans.
6. Katy Perry
Owner of the most popular YouTube account in the world this week, Katy Perry's channel attracted 35 million views as her latest video "Unconditionally" approaches 30 million views, while "Roar" is creeping towards the 300 million mark.
7. Dwayne Johnson
Named by Forbes this week as the 'Top Grossing Actor of 2013' with a gigantic $1.3 billion, The Rock praised his "relentlessly hard working team" and snapped a cheerful-looking selfie which was liked by 770,000 adoring fans.
8. Ariana Grande
Followed by 140,000 people on Twitter after she hinted that her relationship to Nathan Sykes was over, her popularity certainly hasn't waned since the rumors first surfaced with 100,000 people following the pop-princess on Instagram.
9. Tyrese Gibson
With an addition of 14,000 fans to his Instagram following thanks to some stunning uploads including luxury yachts and neon shots of the Maldives, Tyrese Gibson also celebrated his Grammy nomination on Facebook where he gained 600,000 fans.
Followed by nearly 100,000 people, joined by 15,000 on Google Plus and with 26 million hits on her official YouTube channel, Rihanna capped a big week after she was voted one of Vogue's best dressed women in the world this week
