Greta Gerwig

We will be seeing much more of the emblematic face of independent cinema next year. In February, she'll be playing alongside Natalie Portman in the Jackie Kennedy biopic. But it's Gerwig's role in "20th Century Women" which will probably garner the most attention -- her part in this comedy-drama with Annette Bening and Elle Fanning, which is slated for release on December 28 in the US, is likely to get her an Oscar nomination. Gerwig will also be part of the voice cast in Wes Anderson's new animation "Isle of Dogs" with colleagues Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton and Bill Murray.

Gal Gadot

In 2017, the Israeli actress will have the task of making people forget Lynda Carter when she becomes the new Wonder Woman. Following an appearance in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", the Amazonian superheroine will get her own movie next year which will tell the story of her origins. Later in the year, Gadot will also appear alongside her male counterparts in "Justice League", a sort of Avengers with DC Comics heroes.

Sofia Boutella

Following her roles in "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and "Star Trek Beyond", the former French-Algerian dancer will be seen in Universal's reboot of "The Mummy", playing the title role. The film, also starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe, is set for release next year. 2017 will also see Boutella cast in the thriller "The Coldest City" with Charlize Theron and John Goodman.

Rihanna

The world-famous Barbadian singer will give her acting career a boost in the coming months. Along with a role in the next Besson movie "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets", she will play the mythical Alfred Hitchcock character Marion Crane in the fifth and final season of the series "Bates Motel". Rihanna will continue her adventures on the big screen with "Ocean's Eight", a female spin-off of the "Ocean's Eleven" trilogy, and "Annette", a Leos Carax film with Adam Driver and Rooney Mara, both slated for release in 2018.

Priyanka Chopra

The star of the thriller series "Quantico" will appear in her first Hollywood movie in 2017. The former Miss India who won the Miss World contest will star in the adaptation of the "Baywatch" series, along with Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach.
