SALT LAKE CITY - A former TV pitchman in Utah known for his over-the-top personality has been released from custody after being disruptive and combative in court.

Dell "Super Dell" Schanze had an initial hearing Thursday on allegations that he chased a barn owl on his motorized paraglider.

He was put into handcuffs in court after he interrupted U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge Brooke Wells during another man's hearing.

The 45-year-old Schanze was escorted from the courtroom but brought back minutes later for his own hearing.

He remained disruptive but eventually pleaded not guilty to charges of knowingly using an aircraft to harass wildlife and pursuing a migratory bird.

Schanze was held for several hours until Wells released him. The judge also ordered him not to have any weapons.
