Gertrude Chandler Warner's classic series of children's books "The Boxcar Children" is to get an animated adaptation reports The Wrap.

Shout Factory and Legacy Classics have confirmed that they have partnered up to work on of new set of family movies based on the best-selling children's book series.

The first wave of films to come from the new deal will include three new animated features adapted from several of the books, with the companies looking to time the release of the first move to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the first book's publishing.

The books tell the story of the Alden siblings, impoverished orphans who for a time live in an old boxcar in a forest before going to live with their wealthy grandfather. The books follow them on their many adventures as they solve mysteries over the course of the series.

One of the bestselling book series of all time, over 70 million have been sold worldwide, with over one million children reading the books in schools across North America every year. Although the new deal is for just a handful of films, there are over 150 books in the series.
