Celebrities poured out their grief on social media, as they hailed Marshall for a prolific career that included directing the romantic comedy "Pretty Woman," and producing the iconic sitcoms "Happy Days" and "Mork & Mindy."
Director and former "Happy Days" actor Ron Howard mourned Marshall in a series of tweets, calling him a "world class boss and mentor whose creativity and leadership meant a ton to me." He added that Marshall's loss "leaves a huge void for all who were lucky to be in his orbit."
Richard Gere called Marshall "the pulse and life force of 'Pretty Woman,' a steady helmsman on a ship that could have easily capsized." Gere said in a statement that Marshall brought "real joy and love" to everything and everyone, and was a "mentor and a cheerleader and one of the funniest men who ever lived."
Jason Alexander, who was also in "Pretty Woman," said on Twitter that Marshall "gave me one of the best experiences I ever had in my career. Thanks pal."

Robin Williams' daughter, Zelda, thanked Marshall on Twitter for giving her father his breakout role in "Mork & Mindy." "You forever changed my father's life, and thus, mine," she said.

"Happy Days" star Henry Winkler, a.k.a. "The Fonz," said on Twitter that Marshall was "larger than life, funnier than most, and the definition of a friend."

Don Most, who also appeared on "Happy Days," called Marshall a "uniquely creative force." Most said in a statement: "It was a great pleasure and treat to see him work, and work with him. And on top of this he was a warm and generous man, who always fostered a feeling of family with our case. We lost a giant today."
Marshall touched many careers during his time in Hollywood, which spanned six decades and included credits for directing, producing, writing and directing.
After Marshall's death, Twitter was full of actors, producers and other celebrities sharing memories of their encounters with him over his storied career. Others simply thanked him for his humour, kindness and talent.
