VANCOUVER - Robert Dziekanski's mother is applauding perjury charges against the four British Columbia Mounties who confronted and Tasered her son.
Zofia Cisowski released a written statement yesterday saying she hopes justice will finally be achieved.
The B.C. justice department says the charges relate to the officers' testimony at a public inquiry into Dziekanski's death after the confrontation at Vancouver's airport in 2007.
The officers told the inquiry they were afraid the Polish immigrant was about to attack them with a stapler, but the inquiry concluded their testimony wasn't credible.
The perjury charges are being laid on the recommendation of Richard Peck, the special prosecutor appointed to re-examine the case.
Justice officials say Peck did not recommend charges relating to Dziekanski's death because there was little chance of a conviction, which is what the Crown also concluded earlier.
A lawyer for one of the officers says there is no substance to the perjury allegations and that his client will plead not guilty.
