TORONTO - Cirque du Soleil will unveil its new show, "Amaluna," in Montreal in April.

The Montreal-based acrobatic troupe says renowned American director Diane Paulus will helm the production, which will begin performances on the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal on April 19.

It will then hit the Port de Quebec on July 25 and open at Toronto's Port Lands on Sept. 5.

Like Shakespeare's "The Tempest," "Amaluna" is set on a mysterious island governed by goddesses and sees a parent conjuring up a storm that brings together a daughter and a brave, young suitor.

In "Amaluna," the parent is Prospera the queen.

Specially priced tickets for the show are now exclusively available to Cirque Club members.

Paulus is a professor at Harvard University and is artistic director of the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Mass.

A Tony Award nominee for Broadway's "Hair," she directed "The Magic Flute" at the Canadian Opera Company last year and is now helming The Gershwins' "Porgy and Bess" on Broadway.
