A South African woman has been charged after an Air Canada flight bound for Toronto was temporarily diverted.

Flight 869, heading from London, England to Toronto, landed in Halifax instead Wednesday, after a female passenger allegedly assaulted two flight attendants.

The flight, which landed at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport at approximately noon local time, resumed its journey to Toronto shortly after 3 p.m.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested in Halifax before the plane was allowed to leave the airport, RCMP said in a statement on Thursday.

Nomantangwa Angel Babhekile Johansson, from Sandhurst, Sandton, South Africa, has been charged with three counts of assault on an aircraft. She's also been charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of causing a disturbance, and one count of endangering an aircraft.

She was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Thursday, RCMP said.
