Winnipeg police are investigating after finding a woman passed out in the driver’s seat of a car with two children in the back.

Police tell CTV News they were called to a shopping mall parking lot Wednesday, after a passerby noticed a car with its engine running and air conditioning on, with a woman and two children inside.

Witnesses say it was close to 26 degrees Celsius at the time. It's not known how long the three were in the car before they were removed.

The president of the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg says responders gave the woman one shot of naloxone, an injectable opioid antidote.

She was transported to hospital and police haven't yet spoken with her. No charges have been laid.

Police say the children were taken to hospital as a precaution. Winnipeg Child and Family Services has been notified.
