The Vancouver Police Department has responded to an online video showing an officer smashing a car window after the driver refused to open his door.

Footage of the November incident, posted online, appears to show a quick escalation between the officer and unidentified driver.

“Why have you pulled me over, officer?” the driver asks as the officer shines a light through the window. “Woah, excuse me, you’re blinding me.”

The officer repeatedly asks the driver to open his door, and at one point says: “I’m not playing this game, you’re under arrest.”

He then warns that the driver’s “window is going to go in” if he doesn’t comply.

When the driver says he hasn’t done anything wrong, the officer says he smells marijuana in the car.

“No you do not,” the driver says. “You do not smell marijuana in my vehicle.”

The officer finally gives a two-second warning before he smashes the window.

“Are you serious?” the driver says.

On Monday, the Vancouver Police Department released a statement on the incident.

“The driver failed to comply with numerous police commands to exit the vehicle, and he was ultimately forcefully removed,” the department said.

The driver was later charged with possession of marijuana.
