The latest edition of the Canadian Olympic Team’s signature red mittens have debuted ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The design of the popular red knitted mittens features a white Canadian leaf on the palm and the letters ‘CAN’ on the other side.

The original red mittens were launched ahead of the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver where they were a surprise hit. The mittens flew off the shelves, with more than 3.5 million pairs sold during a five-month campaign.

The mittens were such a hot commodity that counterfeit versions were made too. The official Olympic mittens include a hologram tag.

The 2014 red mittens can be purchased at Hudson’s Bay stores and online for $10, with 30 per cent of the sale price donated to the Canadian Olympic Foundation.

“It’s a great way for Canadians to show their support,” Canadian trampoline Olympic gold medallist Rosie MacLennan told CTV’s Canada AM on Tuesday. “It’s something physical. To see there are people behind us, really rooting for us.”
