GRONDINES, Que. -- Transportation Safety Board investigators have been sent to inspect a tanker ship carrying chemical products that has grounded in the St. Lawrence River.

The Halit Bey, a 163-metre-long oil and chemical vessel, was heading toward Trois-Rivieres today when it hit ground near Grondines, a small municipality southwest of Quebec City.

It's unclear if anything is leaking from the tanker.

TSB spokeswoman Julie Leroux says three investigators are at the scene but have sparse cellphone coverage and haven't provided any updates.

The tanker was built in 2009 and is registered in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean.
