Strong plow winds were behind a freight train derailment in southwestern Saskatchewan that saw 33 cars go off the track, Canadian Pacific Railway has said.
The derailment happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Thursday near the community of Waldeck, located about 230 kilometres west of Regina.
A CP spokesperson told CTV Regina that no dangerous goods were onboard the train and no injuries or leaks have been reported.
A plow wind moves along a narrow, straight path and is usually associated with a thunderstorm.
CP said the line was expected to reopen sometime on Friday.
