A suspected serial tire-slasher in a Surrey, B.C. neighbourhood has been captured on security video, after destroying the tires of several residents.

More than a dozen local residents have fallen victim to the suspect, who has not yet been caught.

Robin Laird, who manages a tire shop in the area, told CTV Vancouver he’s seen 20 to 30 tires slashed since last month and eight just on Saturday.

The tire-slashing crime streak has residents confused and angry.

Resident Valerie Barker, whose car has been targeted four times, told CTV Vancouver: “This makes no sense because you’re not getting anything out of this.”

Not only is it an inconvenience but it’s a costly crime as well.  Some locals have had to pay thousands of dollars to replace their tires.

“Overall I think we’re about $3,500-$4,000 in the hole,” Fleetwood resident Jacek Redlinski told CTV Vancouver.

Lori Mauricio set up the video camera after having her tires slashed seven times.

Finally this week the surveillance cameras caught the suspect in action.

“It was a relief,” she said. “I mean I wasn't happy that he came back.”

Mauricio and her neighbours hope the video will prompt the police to step up their investigation, or spur someone who knows the suspect to come forward.

The video footage has now been turned over to the RCMP.
