Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall may not be the first person that comes to mind when you think of an “outlaw cowboy,” but his latest purchase may change your mind. Wall is now the proud owner of Waylon Jennings’ 1973 Cadillac El Dorado convertible. It’s the car the country musician drove during the height of his outlaw country popularity in the 1970s.

Wall told CTV Saskatoon that Jennings’ record label RCA Records bought the singer the car to celebrate his two gold records in 1973.

“They wanted to celebrate so they bought him this car and his name is sort of embroidered on the back in the flying “W”,” Wall said.

Besides Jennings’ music, the premier is also a big fan of classic cars. He owned an old Dodge which he ended up selling to raise money for the country star’s Cadillac.

“I sold my previous midlife crisis which was a ’67 Coronet,” he said.

Wall learned of the country legend’s car through his son Colter Wall, a singer-songwriter who travels in the same music circles as Jennings’ son Shooter Jennings.

Although the classic convertible was recently delivered to the premier’s home, he may not be able to become a “Ramblin’ Man” just yet.

“Faith (his daughter) and I were driving down the road and we may have blown a tire,” he said. “Some of the shrapnel may have taken out the rad so the car got towed back to Swift Current.”

Wall believes the car is just behaving in the spirit of its former owner.

“It’s Waylon Jennings’ car. It’s kind of an outlaw car,” he said. “I think it’s got a bit of an attitude.”

The premier plans to get the car fixed up so he can take it on the car show circuit so everyone can catch a glimpse of this piece of music history. The avid car enthusiast has already restored a Shelby Mustang for a charity fundraiser and is currently working on a Dodge Charger. But it’s the country legend’s former car that has the premier most excited.

“Waylon Jennings’ Cadillac is now in Saskatchewan,” Wall said with a smile.
