SARNIA, Ont. -- Police say they have made an arrest in an animal cruelty case involving a cat found in a southwestern Ontario community suffering from as many as 17 pellet wounds to his head.
The cat, named "Joe" after his rescue earlier this month in Brights Grove, east of Sarnia, is being cared for by the local humane society.
Police say a 19-year-old Sarnia man was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of animal cruelty.
He's also charged with drug possession and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking after police say officers found oxycodone, codeine and marijuana during a search of his home.
The Sarnia and District Humane Society says Joe is now on the mend after having surgery to remove the pellets, but that the cat lost an eye due to his injuries.
Sarnia police say they are continuing to investigate the case and anyone with information is urged to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers.
