EDMONTON -- A voluntary call for people in Edmonton and area to limit non-essential water use because of higher turbidity levels in the North Saskatchewan River has been lifted.

Heavy rain in the region last week led to increased debris in the river, from which the city draws its water.

Epcor Utilities Inc., says the debris increased turbidity levels and slowed the rate of potable water production, causing demand to exceed supply.

Homeowners and businesses were asked to slow the flow from their taps until the levels in the river dropped and production caught up.

Epcor says in a release that customers in Edmonton and region answered the call and water storage levels have returned to acceptable working levels.
