The body of a missing pregnant woman has been found inside the Beloeil, Que., home she shared with her boyfriend and young son. Police made the discovery Thursday evening.
Cheryl Bau-Tremblay, 28, who was five months pregnant at the time of her death, had not been seen for five days.
Police told reporters Thursday night that Bau-Tremblay’s boyfriend was taken in for questioning. They said he was considered a witness but that his status could change later.
Bau-Tremblay was last seen at her home in Beloeil, which is about 45 kilometres east of Montreal. She had just returned from spending a few days in Magog, in the Eastern Townships.
Police said they were told she left home on foot alone on Aug. 1 and never returned. They described the disappearance as unusual, as Tremblay left without a purse or a phone.
On Wednesday, while police awaited a search warrant to search the couple's home, police scoured the nearby Richelieu River, using boats, helicopter and a bike patrol along the river banks.
When they were allowed into the home, they found a woman's body that they say appears to match Bau Tremblay. They did not reveal how it appears that she died.
Neighbours say the couple just moved into the area about a month ago and while they didn't know much about them, they appeared friendly.
Neighbour Michel Parent told CTV Montreal he was surprised at the death, saying he had never heard any fighting or seen anything strange at the home.
