YARMOUTH, N.S. -- Police in separate parts of Atlantic Canada are investigating two possible cases of potato tampering.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says a resident of the Baie Verte Peninsula reported finding a sewing needle inside a bag of potatoes that have been recalled by the producer.

Meanwhile, the RCMP say a nail found in a bag of potatoes was reported by someone on Tuesday in Yarmouth, N.S.

Police say the 10 pound bag of potatoes was purchased recently at Giant Tiger in Yarmouth, the latest in a series of incidents across the Maritimes.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recently issued a recall for several brands.

Police in Newfoundland say the case they are investigating involves one of the recalled brands, Farmer's Market potatoes produced in the Maritimes, and the bag was purchased on May 19.
