There are numerous unconfirmed reports of a tornado touching down in the vicinity of Windsor, Ont.

Social media was alight with photos and videos of a funnel cloud and its aftermath Wednesday night.

At 7:29 p.m., Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for Windsor and Essex County, urging area residents to take shelter.

The tornado warning was lifted about half an hour later.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens said about 15 homes had been damaged in the storm, and city agencies were working to figure out how to best help the affected residents.

According to Dilkens, three people also suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators from Environment Canada plan to visit the region on Thursday.
