Petawawa, Ont. stabbing suspect charged with 1st-degree murder

A man has been charged with first-degree murder after a stabbing attack in Petawawa, Ont. left another man dead and two women seriously injured Friday.
Brian David Goddard, 25, faces one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Goddard appeared in a Kingston courtroom via video link on Saturday.
Police were called to a home on East Street at Victoria Street in the small Eastern Ontario town just before 11 a.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, emergency crews found 56-year-old Danny Petersma dead inside the home.
Authorities launched a manhunt and scoured the area around the house using a police helicopter and canine unit. Military police at the Canadian Forces base in Petawawa also assisted in the effort.
Police arrested the suspect after a 2 ½-hour search.
Two females, 55 and 17-years-old, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries in connection with the incident.
OPP and military police continue to investigate.
Goddard is scheduled to appear back in court on July 2.
