Canada’s ministry of Foreign Affairs is investigating reports of the kidnapping of a Canadian citizen in Afghanistan.
A spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada told CTVNews.ca that the ministry is pursuing “all appropriate channels” and seeking further information about the reported kidnapping.
The spokesperson said they have been in contact with Afghan authorities about the alleged kidnapping.
CTV News Channel's Mercedes Stephenson says unconfirmed reports from Afghan and Pakistan media suggest the victim is a male civilian.
Reports suggest an American woman who was travelling with the man was taken as well.
Reports citing Afghan authorities suggest they were travelling from a western province of Afghanistan to the capital of Kabul when they were kidnapped by armed insurgents.
