A 93-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving after allegedly running over another man in a Kitchener, Ont., parking lot.

Police believe that a dispute between the two men may have led to the incident, which happened Wednesday evening.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, a 57-year-old man was standing in front of a pickup truck being driven by the 93-year-old. The truck moved forward forcing the younger man to trip on the curb. At that point the younger man was allegedly hit by the vehicle before the truck clipped a metal sign. He was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

"Having this type of charge, particularly in a parking lot, is relatively rare for anyone of any age," Waterloo Regional Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel told CTV Kitchener.

Police are still investigating. The elderly driver was released from police custody on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 31.
