Internet users clicking on the government of Ontario's websites were greeted by some unusual sights Friday, during a hack attack.

In a statement to CTV News, Ont. Premier Kathleen Wynne's spokesperson Zita Astravas said the attack targeted a third party domain routing service, and not the government's websites.

For visitors, however, the government's websites appeared to have been attacked. For example, the Ontario.ca website displayed a message saying the website had been "hacked."

Set against a stark, black background, a young man was pictured along with a profanity-laced call for visitors to follow a Twitter account.

A video of MC Hammer's song "U Can't Touch This" was also included in the message.

That website was soon restored while others continued to display messages indicating server troubles. According to Astravas, "Government IT experts are working with the external domain name hosting provider to restore access as quickly as possible."

She also said no government or personal data was compromised in the attack.
