RCMP say a snowmobiler has died after being caught in an avalanche on a mountain in British Columbia Saturday.

Revelstoke RCMP confirmed to CTV News that one snowmobiler died following an avalanche on Boulder Mountain in the West Kootenay. The snowmobiler was out with two others, who were not hurt.

Search and rescue crews were dispatched to the area Saturday afternoon, RCMP said.

Authorities say it’s not yet clear what caused the avalanche.

The area is a popular destination for snowmobilers, a number of whom have been killed in avalanches in recent years.

Another avalanche in the area on Saturday also sent a truck driver to hospital after his truck was swept off the road.

Police say that accident happened at about 11:30 a.m. local time.
