Canada’s top Olympic athletes had plenty to celebrate with a series of festivities that took place in Toronto on Friday.

A gala dinner at the Air Canada Centre saw a number of athletes inducted into the Olympic Hall of Fame.

New inductees included cross-country skier Beckie Scott, wrestler Daniel Igali and freestyle skier Jean-Luc Brassard, along with the 2010 men’s hockey team and the 2006 women’s hockey team.

Synchronized swimming coach Julie Sauve was inducted into the “builders” category, and Sarah Burke, who died in a training accident in January, was posthumously enshrined for her work in building the sport of freestyle skiing.

Earlier in the day, the country’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes took to the streets of Toronto to celebrate the country’s success at the London Games.

More than 200 athletes joined in a downtown parade, waving flags and cheering at crowds who gathered along the downtown route.

The 2012 Olympic Heroes Parade included 25 trucks and convertibles, London cabs and a double-decker bus filled with athletes.

Trampoline gymnast Rosie MacLennan, who won Canada’s lone Olympic gold medal in London, was among the athletes dressed in red and white.

“We were all those kids,” MacLennan told CTV Toronto. “We were the ones cheering the Olympians on, so to be able to turn around and hopefully inspire them, it’s a really good feeling.”

Olympic cyclist and speed skater Clara Hughes said she was blown away by fan support.

“Everyone was just waving to say thank you and waving their flags, it was a beautiful day.”

Weightlifter Christine Girard, who took home the bronze medal at the 2012 Games, said the feeling during the parade was amazing.

“We’re so proud to be Canadian,” she said.

Members of the women’s soccer team, which captured bronze, cheered and waved to crowds watching through office windows, before going into an impromptu rendition of O Canada.

“The energy here is incredible,” said Derek Kent of the Canadian Olympic Committee.

“The athletes delivered in London and it is time to celebrate. And Toronto is definitely celebrating today.”
