A Nova Scotia woman who was the inspiration behind a flower garden that sprung up in the middle of the winter has died.
Doris Hanna of Upper Onslow, N.S., died at the age of 73 on Monday. She had been battling lung cancer that spread to her bones and brain.
In January, while gazing out of her living room, Hanna told her daughters that she would love to see some flowers from the window.
Her daughters arranged some plastic rose buds on top of the snow. Within days, the simple garden blossomed with the help of family, friends and even strangers.
The family received bouquets of flowers from as far away as British Columbia, and messages via social media from Australia, the U.K. and Germany.
