HALIFAX - The opposition in Nova Scotia says the provincial government isn't doing enough to address a shortage of firewood needed to heat homes this winter.

N-D-P member of the legislature, Sterling Belliveau, says he warned the Liberals of the shortage in May.

But he says little was done to look into the matter.

As a result, he says many people now can't buy the firewood they need to heat their homes.

The Progressive Conservatives are also accusing the government of failing to deal with the lack of firewood.

Tory M-L-A Chris d'Entremont says that could lead to a cold winter for many Nova Scotians.

He says the shortage is due to an inability to access Crown land, the export of wood, the harvesting of smaller trees and an insufficient workforce.
