HALIFAX -- Halifax police say a man is facing charges of public mischief after dozens of people carried out a futile search for a person who wasn't missing.
Police called off a search launched yesterday in the Beaverbank area after finding it was based on a false report.
Police say search crews began looking for a man after authorities were told there had been a crash of an off-road vehicle.
RCMP say the man made up a story that the man he was driving with, Gregory Francis Yhard of Wellington, Nova Scotia, was still missing.
ATVs went into the woods, helicopters flew over the area and volunteers spent part of their day looking for the man.
It turned out the man named wasn't even in the province.
