ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- The case of a man accused of stabbing an 11-year-old boy on a Newfoundland soccer pitch is due back in court April 7.

Nicholas Layman is accused of attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in connection with an incident on Sept. 25 in nearby Conception Bay South.

Layman's lawyer Mark Gruchy requested more time on Thursday in provincial court.

The boy who was stabbed was released from hospital after several days and was expected to make a full recovery.
