As many as 30 collisions were reported on Southern Ontario highways on Thursday, including one that shut down part of the QEW.
At least one person was sent to hospital following a 20-vehicle pileup on the Queen Elizabeth Way near Beamsville that prompted the OPP to close all Toronto-bound lanes at Victoria Ave. late Thursday afternoon. As of 5:20 p.m. ET the OPP say these Toronto-bound lanes were partially opened.
The OPP is asking that drivers slow down and drive according to weather conditions.
OPP Sgt. David Woodford says conditions have been particularly bad on the QEW between Lions Creek and the border, on the 403 near Hamilton and the 401 into the Cambridge and Kitchener areas.
The OPP is sending detachment officers from Burlington to assist in the Niagara region.
