A mourning Montreal woman says her grieving process is now harder after she picked up what she was told were her father’s cremated ashes and found a piece of piece of paper along with them suggesting they are actually the remains of another man.
Kathleen Sharpe said she found the name Gerald Breault inside the plastic bag of what the funeral home insists are what’s left of her father Robert Sharpe, who died on Jan. 15.
Sharpe said the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu funeral home told her that they were certainly her father and that she should just remove the paper.
However, after contacting the Breault family and comparing paperwork, Sharpe discovered an identical file number on both men’s documents.
The families have requested a joint meeting with representative of the funeral home, but a date has not yet been set. The home did not respond to an interview request from CTV Montreal.
“It’s unbelievable,” Sharpe said in French, adding that the “for the rest our lives, we’ll never be 100 per cent sure these are our father’s ashes.”
