Toronto Mayor and avid football fan Rob Ford will appear on a Washington, D.C. sports-talk radio program Thursday morning to offer his picks of this week’s NFL games.

Ford will appear on 106.7 The Fan’s morning show, called “The Sports Junkies.” In an email to CTVNews.ca, Ford’s Chief of Staff, Dan Jacobs, confirmed the mayor’s planned appearance.

Eric Bickel, the show’s co-host, tweeted Wednesday morning that he hopes Ford will appear weekly to offer his NFL picks. But Jacobs said Ford has yet to decide if that will be the case.

“Of course, it will also depend on his schedule, as City business comes first,” Jacobs said.

Washington’s CBS affiliate reported that Ford’s segment will begin at 8:40 a.m. EST.

Ford is a long-time football fan who for years served as coach of the team at a high school near his suburban Toronto home, Don Bosco Catholic Secondary. Ford was relieved of his coaching duties last May, not long after media first reported on a video in which the mayor is purportedly seen smoking crack cocaine. The school said it wanted to “pursue a different direction” with a new coach.

Ford’s love of football has also been frequently evident in his sartorial choices, with football themed attire sometimes attracting as much scrutiny as the words that have come out of his mouth. Pundits noted Ford’s nearly 20-year-old NFL tie he wore the day he admitted to smoking crack cocaine, as well as a tie covered in footballs that he wore at a recent city council meeting.

Ford was also besieged by fans at two recent football games in the city: an Argonauts semi-final playoff game and last Sunday’s NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and the Atlanta Falcons.
