A manhunt is underway for a convicted murderer who escaped from a minimum security prison in Saskatchewan some time before 10 a.m. Friday.

Correctional Service Canada says that Roger Joseph Gillet, 64, was discovered missing from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert during a routine count.

Gillet is serving a sentence for second-degree murder, forcible confinement, robbery, prison breach and escaping lawful custody.

He’s described as having a fair complexion, brown eyes and grey hair, with scars on his back and chin and tattoos on his abdomen, chin, upper right arm and left arm. He’s 5’7” tall.

Anyone who might have information on Gillet's whereabouts is asked to contact police.
