CLEVELAND, N.S. -- Police in Cape Breton say a man was found dead in a van that was pulled from the Lower River on Saturday.

The RCMP say 57-year-old Ernest Daniel MacRae of Port Hawkesbury, N.S., died when the vehicle he was driving that went off the road and through the ice on Friday.

Const. Eric Latwaitis says MacRae was the only person in the van when it crashed into the water in Cleveland, near Port Hawkesbury.

Latwaitis says police determined Friday night that the vehicle was fully submerged and had to wait until daylight to continue the investigation.

RCMP divers arrived Saturday morning and located a van, which was pulled from the river by a crane.

Police say the investigation is ongoing but foul play is not suspected.
