Toronto police are looking for a man who they say sexually assaulted a woman after telling her she needed to be “cleansed” of her ex-husband.

In a news release this week, police alleged the incident happened in a North York apartment building near Bathurst Street and Steeles Avenue around 4:45 p.m. on May 23, when a man got onto an elevator with a 37-year-old woman.

After engaging in conversation, the man allegedly told the woman she needed a blessing, and followed her to her apartment.

The man “advised” the woman that she needed to be cleansed of her ex-husband, police said. The man then sexually assaulted the woman inside the apartment, investigators said.

The man is described as six-feet-tall, with long brown side curls and glasses. Police said he speaks Hebrew and English.

The suspect, who appeared to be dressed as an Orthodox Jewish man, was wearing black shoes, black pants, a long black trench/dress coat with a white-collared shirt underneath and a large brimmed hat.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 416-808-3200 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers, 416-222-TIPS.
