ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- A man charged in the stabbing of an 11-year-old boy on a soccer field in Newfoundland will also face charges of theft and possession of stolen property.

Nicholas Layman is due back in provincial court March 5 on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

The case was set over Thursday as Layman remains in custody at the Waterford psychiatric hospital in St. John's.

His lawyer Joan Dawson says six counts each of theft and possession of stolen goods against Layman were transferred from Nova Scotia.

She says the charges relate to alleged incidents last May and June in the Halifax region and will also be dealt with March 5.

Layman, 20, was charged after a boy was stabbed Sept. 25 during a soccer clinic in Conception Bay South near St. John's.

The victim was released from hospital several days later.
