CALGARY -- Police say a Calgary man has been charged in the deaths of an Alberta Hall of Fame sportscaster and his spouse.

Billy Powers and wife, Donna, were found dead in their home in the city's southwest on Thursday.

Powers retired in October 2009 after almost 50 years in the sports broadcasting and communications business.

He worked mainly in radio and was also media co-ordinator for a time for the CFL Calgary Stampeders.

Derek Puffer, who is 35, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Autopsies on the victims are being done and police say they expect to release a cause of death later in the day.

A police inspector said Thursday that a knife had been found near the scene, but he couldn't confirm whether the weapon was connected to the deaths.
